Introduction: Environmental sciences is a systemic study of natural and man made world or simply branch of sciences concerned with the physical, chemical and biological conditions of the environment and their effect on organisms.
The word 'Environment' is derived from a French 'Environer' which means to surround or to encircle. Environment thus includes all conditions and circumstances surrounding and affecting the development of an organism or a group of organisms. It refers to every thing that is around us and surrounds us.
Environment can be defined in number of ways some of these are as follows:
- Environment is the sum total of water, air and land, inter-relationships among themselves and also with living organisms (Environment protection Act, 1986).
- Environment is the sum total of all the external forces, factors, influences and conditions, which affect the life, nature, behaviour, growth, development and maturation of living organisms.
- Environment is the interaction of climate, soil, topography and plants animals in any given area. An organisms environment influences it's form, behavior and survival.
